The $12m Testa Rossa
A fabulous-looking 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was sold by RM-Sotheby’s “Ferrari Legend and Passion” auction at the famous Fiorano track in mid-May for a record 9 million euros (just over $12 million, depending on exchange rates). It went to an unidentified American buyer, with the money going to its equally anonymous Japanese seller.

Bugatti’s Bugatti Tops Gooding Sale
An incomparable piece of automotive history will go on the block with no reserve as the 1936 Bugatti Type 57C Coupe that was Ettore Bugatti’s personal car is auctioned as part of Gooding & Company’s annual Pebble Beach sale this August. Bugatti is the featured marque of this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, so the sale of this significant machine serves as the icing on the proverbial cake.

Heacock’s VIR Gold Cup
Well-known vintage racing enthusiast and patron Ford Heacock III was honored with the VIR Gold Cup at the annual Black & White dinner during Virginia International Raceway's Heacock Gold Cup historic race weekend in early June. The award was presented "in the vintage spirit to someone who embodies performance, passion, camaraderie and contribution to the sport."

Bentley Club Honors Morgan
Nearly two dozen 4-cylinder Morgans are expected to compete for the Morgan Techniques Trophy at the two-day Bentley Drivers Club 60th Anniversary meeting scheduled for Silverstone on August 8-9. Morgans of all shapes and sizes will also be out in force for the Power Torque Morgan Challenge race, which promises a 30-plus grid of Morgans from 1960 to the present. The cars from Malvern Link will also be seen battling against other classic names such as AC, MG, and Jaguar in multi-marque races over the weekend, a fitting tribute to Morgan’s centenary year.

Angoulême's Seven Decades
Three hundred kilometers south of Le Mans can be found another ancient French city with a lengthy motor sport history, Angoulême. There, on the third weekend in September, the 70th anniversary of the first race through the city streets will be celebrated. Instead of running through the scenic rural countryside like its northern “neighbor,” however, the re-creation of the Remparts Grand Speedway Racing takes place on a street circuit that remains unchanged since it was first laid out in 1939.
