Tom Wheatcroft 1922-2009
Motor racing lost a vibrant and influential figure with the October passing of Tom Wheatcroft. The man who brought Donington Park back to life as a racing circuit died in his sleep on at the age of 87, after a long illness. True to his lifelong form, he had bounced back from his illness and remained very active in his last years.

Monterey 2010 Update
Officials of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca have announced that the Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA) will be the sanctioning body for the 2010 Monterey Historic Automobile Races as well as the Monterey Pre-Historics. HMSA will provide rules, regulations, and oversee technical inspection.

HMP Sets 3 Events
The new Historic Motorsports Productions organization has scheduled three events for its inaugural 2010 season. Watkins Glen International was the first track to announce its affiliation with the new organization, but it won’t be hosting the first event, as that honor will go to Barber Motorsports Park. The Alabama track will kick off the first of the three "Bobby Rahal's Legends of Motorsports" weekends on May 20-23. The Watkins Glen outing will then follow on June 11-13, with the third date going to Quebec’s Le Circuit Mont Tremblant on July 10-12.

Spa Six Hours
The Royal Automobile Club’s Woodcote Trophy race at the Spa Six Hours meeting organized by Motor Racing Legends drew a remarkable entry of 40 pre-1956 sports cars. It then proceeded to produce a surprise winner in Maserati 250SI driver Marc Devis when polewinner and early leader Ben Eastick’s D-Type Jaguar was delayed by a lengthy pit stop. That stop erased the Jag’s comfortable lead and threw Eastick into a frantic charge back through the field that fell just short at the checkered flag. Third place was taken by Carlos Monteverde and Gary Pearson in their ex-Jim Clark D-Type, ahead of the Lotus X of Adrian Hall and Nick Adams.

Kop Hillclimb Revival
Rally legend Paddy Hopkirk reopened the Kop Hillclimb after 84 years, speeding up the Buckinghamshire hill in a 2009 Mini after the marshal dropped the Union flag. Tony Davies, member of the MG Car Club was responsible for this event. Having watched the likes of Moss and Fangio at Aintree as a boy, Mr. Davies said: "Part of the reason I got involved in this was I was so annoyed I missed it! I saw the kind of archive of the old racing in the 1920s, and that really inspired me. I thought we've got to do it again."
