The landmark vintage racing event formerly known as the Monterey Historic Automobile Races® has been given a new name. In the wake of the change of management from founder Steve Earle’s General Racing Ltd., to SCRAMP—the local charity that operates the host circuit, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca—the weekend will now be known as the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
MRLS vice president Barry Toepke said the renaming represented “a new dawn for the event. Our new name and branding captures the spirit that has made this event one of the most respected gatherings of its kind worldwide.”
Scheduled for August 13-15, this year’s renewal will again, for the 37th time, highlight some 400 of the world’s finest pre- and post-war racecars competing in 14 race groups on one of America’s finest circuits. Although this year’s featured marque has yet to be announced, featured races thus far confirmed include Formula One, Trans-Am, and the Bugatti Grand Prix, an exclusive event honoring the 50th Anniversary of the American Bugatti Club.
