Auto Unions to Return to Donington for VSCC Seaman Memorial Trophy
The Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) of Great Britain has recently announced that Audi will be sending prewar C and D type Auto Unions to take part in the VSCC’s Richard Seaman Memorial Trophy Meeting to be held on May 19-20 at the historic Donington Circuit. The return of the Auto Unions to Donington is significant in that Auto Union won the only two Grands Prix held in Great Britain prewar. Both Bernd Rosemeyer, in a C type, and Tazio Nuvolari, in a D type, scored Grand Prix victories for Auto Union at Donington.
This year, for the first time, the Seaman Memorial Trophy meeting will be run in a two-day historic festival format as part of a joint venture with the Historic Grand Prix Car Association (HGPCA). The return of the Auto Unions will be supported by a demonstration of Audi’s rich motor sport heritage through the past 70 years. A variety of Audi Trans-Am, IMSA GTO, European touring car and recent Le Mans sports cars will be present.
Other features of the weekend will include races for pre-1960 Grand Prix cars, an endurance race for pre-1965 GT and pre-1962 sports cars, and two motorcycle races as part of the Lansdowne Classic Series for genuine Grand Prix machines from the ’50s and ’60s.
