The year was 1970 and these were the Targa Florio/Nürburgring 908/3’s. These cars were very squat and square, except for their rounded nose. The driver’s feet were in front of the wheels, with nothing but a fiberglass skin protecting them.
The powerplant was rated at only 350 hp, but with the cars being so light, the power-to-weight ratio matched those of later ’80s 956/962 Porsches. This painting is a celebration of the beautiful “Gulf” blue/orange livery graphics from that era and the drivers Jo Siffert, Vic Elford, and Brian Redman who all drove the fast victorious and dangerous 908/3’s.
