In the 1950s, home-made, one-off sports cars were being created everywhere across the country, the majority of them emerging from suburban garages built by weekend racers, mechanics, engineers and dreamers. The results of these efforts were mixed; some cars were crude creations cobbled together by shade-tree mechanics that were downright ugly, some were beautifully crafted but rarely ran well or competitively, others were simply rebodied and lightened production cars.
