It all began as an end-of-season sojourn in the sun.

The Bahamas Speed Week had been initiated in 1954 when U.S. midget racing supremo Sherman F. Crise persuaded the Nassau Development Board to host ten days of racing events. In the early years, differing classes of cars were invited as “Red” Crise attempted to find the perfect mix of competition and personality.
