The opening weekend of this year’s Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival presented the Savannah Speed Classic, organized by Historic Sportscar Racing on the 1.965-mile Grand Prize Circuit on Hutchinson Island. The weekend’s dominant performer was Miami Beach-based Mike Banz, who drove his 1974 Porsche 911 RSR to victory in all five races he entered. Banz claimed overall and class wins in both the Bob Woodman Tire International/American Challenge and the one-hour B.R.M. Enduro Challenge for Vintage & GTC, as well as victory in the 3.0 class of the Classic RS Cup and Global GT race and a pair of HP3 class wins in Group 5’s WeatherTech Sprint races.
